Drug Offence Charges
If you have been charged with having a prohibited substance (drug possession) or if you have been charged with providing prohibited substances to another person (drug supply or trafficking offences), JWP Lawyers can help to defend you. We also can assist with charges relating to import or manufacturing and are experienced with defending drug driving charges that come about with new saliva tests that police conduct on drivers.

Sexual Offences
There is a range of different sexual assault charges that fall under this category, including, but not limited to rape. The maximum penalty for sexual assault is 14 years in prison, aggravated sexual assault is 20 years, and aggravated sexual assault in company could result in a life sentence. If you are facing any charges relating to sexual offences, it is highly recommended that you seek the advice of a lawyer.
Stealing (Theft) Charges
JWP Lawyers can help defend your rights if you are facing criminal charges relating to stealing (larceny, theft, embezzlement, robbery, etc). These matters can be heard in either the Local Court or the District Court and relate to the removal of property without the owner’s consent, or by force. For advice about your case, defence, and costs, you should consult a lawyer immediately.
Assaulting Police, Resisting Arrest
Have you been charged with assaulting a police officer, or resisting arrest (running away from a police officer, or physically struggling, when they were trying to detain or arrest you)? Or, if you have reason to believe you might be charged with a crime relating to hindering a police officer in the line of duty, JWP Lawyers are familiar with these legal issues and can defend you
Defended Hearing
Defended hearings are court trials where the accused chooses to defend their rights and does not pleas guilty to the charge or charges against them. Instead, the accused has the opportunity to present their version of events.
Trials
Some legal matters will proceed to a trial before a jury in the NSW District or Supreme Court. If this happens, JWP Lawyers can defend you. In this case, the prosecution is obliged to prove your guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Suspicion is not sufficient, as people are innocent unless proven guilty.
Sentence Hearing (Sentencing)
If you either plead guilty, no contest, or are found (by the magistrate or jury) to be guilty of a charge, you will be sentenced. Sentencing hearings are usually held on a separate day from hearings and trials. These hearings are court proceedings where the magistrate or judge imposes the penalties on you for your crime. The defence can make submissions before the sentence is delivered, asking the judge or magistrate to consider certain different things, that will allow for a lighter sentence. The defendant’s outcomes are usually better if they have a lawyer to make these statements and submissions on your behalf.
